  1. These videos are so great! Thanks for posting them. Elissa, I had no idea you were allergic to penicillin and vancomycin - what were they able to give you for an antibiotic, then? Tim was teasing me a little when we were watching this because I was acting like a total med student the whole time. For example: Lars, at about 10:25 of the first video, you were totally checking Tor's Babinski reflex! I got really excited watching his toes go up like that - good work! Also, I'm excited to see Elissa's C-section scar. We're a little disappointed we didn't get to see the Dendro encounter; did you actually film it? Can't wait to see all three of you this summer!!

  2. Well, they started me on clindomyacin initially, since we knew I was allergic to penicillin. But another doctor came on shift and thought we should switch to vancomyacin because it covers a wider spectrum of bacteria, and because my third trimester group B strep test came back negative (although it was positive in the first trimester), we weren't sure exactly what we were dealing with. So they switched the IV over and almost immediately I started getting a horrible burning, itching sensation all over my head, spreading down my neck and chest. Lars called the nurse and she shut off the drip, and the reaction went away in a few minutes. She called it "red man syndrome." So then we went back to clindo and everything was fine. They also used clindo to treat possible causes of my fever after the surgery.

No Dendro footage, alas--it was all hands on deck! Hopefully by the time I see you guys, the scar will be fading nicely. It's still pretty tender, but today is only four weeks postpartum. We are so excited for our family reunion in August too, and for you guys to move back to the old 'hood!
