Happy Two-Month Birthday!

...if months are four weeks long, anyway. Tor is eight weeks old today, and we paid the pediatrician a visit this morning. Here's the lowdown compared with his stats from his one-week visit:
  • Height: 22.5" (one week: 20.5")
  • Weight: 10 lb. 4.5 oz. (one week: 7 lb. 3 oz.)
  • Head circumference: 37.8 cm. (one week: 34.9 cm.)
  • Vaccines received:
    • Hepatitis B
    • Polio
    • Pneumococcal disease
    • Diptheria, tetanus, & pertussis (whooping cough)
    • Rotavirus
    • HIB (Haemophilus influenzae type B)

Here's the big guy at 15 minutes old:                                 At one week:

These days, he has a definite personality. He likes being changed...
...having tummy time...

...being naked...

...and helping with chores.

He dislikes waking up hungry.

Couch Potato

Many of you are familiar with the conjoined suede La-Z-Boys where Lars and I have spent the better part of our last five years. So where else would you expect to find our progeny hanging out?

If Lars would just shave (or if Tor would finally grow a damn beard), we could compare profiles.

Reindeer Games

I was going to wait until later this week to post these, but I was so enamored of them that I thought, "How can I deprive the world any longer?" Although I do think Tor bears a striking resemblance to Smeagol in the first pic, the second comparison is more gratifying (name that philosopher!).

Happy Valentine's Day

It turns out Tor has no red outfits in his current size. This is not a call for anyone to send us more clothing, simply an explanation for his lack of seasonal attire.

Note that here Tor is wearing actual pants for the first time ever! Looking just like a little man (especially with his aggressively advancing male-pattern baldness). Wonder what color his next head of hair will be. Shall we start a pool?

A couple of smiles to round out the post. Dino-MITE!

Stuffed Suits

It's been super cold here lately. Here's the offspring all bundled up after a diaper change:

As to the title of this post, I've decided I need to photograph Tor in outfits he's about to outgrow. Since he's getting ready to punch his feet through both the puppy dog (above) and star and frog (below) onesies, they're the first in this series. All are size NB.

Tummy Time

A couple of videos I took of Tor today. In the second one, he turns his head. A thrill a minute!

...and a few pics just for kicks.

Sacked out in the car seat with his lip stuck.

The 'Rents

Lars sent this photo to his high school's alumni newsletter, and it's too classic not to post here.

Today I took my first solo outing with Tor. You can see his little ear peeking out of the sling here. We walked four blocks to the Walgreens to get diaper wipes and took a circuitous route home, and he pretty much slept through the whole trip. (This picture is before I put on a huge down jacket, hat, gloves, and boots--it is still winter here.)

Still tired him out, though.

Desperately Seeking Smiles

I spent Tor's alert time after several feedings today carrying around the camera and trying to catch him with a smile on his face. He's still (theoretically) too young to produce "social smiles" in response to environmental cues, so we're dealing with "spontaneous smiles" at this point. Which makes it harder to know when you should whip out the camera. I can't call any of these an unqualified success, but they do show personality.

(Sidebar: Did you know that the circumferences of an infant's head and chest are roughly equal until he's six months old? Our friend who's a nurse gave us her old pediatrics textbook, so I'm chock full of fun facts like that. Tor's head circumference, by the way, was 36.5 cm at four weeks, following the growth curve nicely from his two-week doctor's visit.)

The child has a crazy eye going here. Not sure if this is more smile or scream.

This is as close as it gets for another couple of weeks, probably. But it's still pretty cute.
